Amateur  Versatility Winner

Shane Joyner and Flos Big Cookie

1999 gelding that is double bred Poco Bueno on top and out of a daughter of Peppy San Badger.

History
“Cookie” was purchased two years ago and was relatively green, “he didn’t even neck rein” Shane said. Cookie started out working for a living as Shane used him on his dad’s farm to work cattle and bring them up- a task he still uses the horse for.  The horse came along in his training, and although he grew up around horse shows Shane had never shown before and decided to try it this year.

Thoughts on winning award:
“To tell you the truth, I was kind of going for the Rookie of the Year, so I never expected to win anything, but came home with three buckles!  I was really impressed with all the people there, it’s a great organization.  Every body is out to help everybody, and that’s really cool, I like that.”

Events competed in:
Team sorting, feed lot sorting, ranch riding, ranch reining, and gelding 3 & over

Special memories:
The very first class was team sorting and I won it with Wayne Mc Donald and Johnny Pettit, and the very next class was feed lot sorting and I was first and reserve with another horse.  I’d won two buckles within an hour and from that point on, I didn’t care if I won another thing!  I’ll never forget that!”

Future plans:
Shane wants to continue his quest for the Rookie of the Year title this year, and next year plans to bring out a new horse- a son of Nu Chex to Cash.
